"I strongly urge you to check out the Patchman VL soundbanks, especially if you use a windcontroller. First off, I think that Patchman has done a good job in 'thinking' out the design of these sounds. Muted brass sounds were nice and the Patchman flutes were major improvements - especially nice was the SLEDGEFLUTE patch I played - and I was pleased to find ... improved violin, string and cello sounds. The flute patches give away, somewhat, Patchman's considerable expertise, skill and experience with a vast body of classic analog synths - the synth sounds are terrific! Plenty of interesting Moogs, ARPs, and other innovative synth and analog type flavors here! Patchman really seems to know its synth sounds thoroughly - really, overall, I am quite pleased with what I have played... I am in good hands with Patchman behind the edit screens."
"...we were in the middle of a 70's 'trance' groove when it came time for me to solo - turning the VL wheel, I landed on EWI Arp (a terrific Patchman analog voice) and decided to shirk my emulative ways and try something different. The results were unusually gratifying! I played a few licks and started controlling the filters with breath to make a texture when I activated the gliss control and the notes melded together in a beautiful slur of controlled pitchbend - IT WAS GREAT! It had that seventies porno-soundtrack quality that everyone loves and the band and crowd went NUTS! Anyway, I remain impressed with the Patchman analog work - I have heard a real ARP before and Patchman comes remarkably close to the real thing."

If you are using an older Mac and your VL1/m has the Version 2 upgrade you might be interested in downloading the Yamaha VL1 Expert Editor for Mac. It was available for free but we no longer know where it can be found. If you find a link to it let us know! It allows you to view, audition, and edit VL1/m Voices. You can also use the Yamaha VL1 Visual Editor for Mac. They will work directly via the Modem port without the need for MIDI Manager. If you wish to use the Printer port you will need to use Apple MIDI Manager.
* PC Users...
For PC and compatibles, at one point there was a VL1 Expert Editor available for free but we no longer know where it can be found. If you find a link to it let us know!
