Standard MIDIfiles (.MID) for Mac/PC. This format consists of 10 Standard MIDIfiles each of which loads a group of six Voices into the Custom Voice memory bank. Use a MIDI Sequencer such as Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Cakewalk, Digital Performer, etc... or a MIDIfile player such as the Roland Sound Brush, or Yamaha MDF2 or MDF3 to send the file to the VL70-m via a MIDI cable.

Visual/Expert Editor (.LIB and .CMT) file format for Mac/PC. This is the format that is used with the Expert Editor and Visual Editor (see below).

Please note that each of these soundbank consists of 60 fully-programmed NEW Voices which include new Elements, thus these Voices can only be stored in the six Custom Voice locations in the VL70-m.

Macintosh Users...

If you are using an older Mac, we recommend downloading and using the Yamaha Expert Editor or the Yamaha Visual Editor for Mac available here. Please note that these are very old programs and don't run on newer Macs. Either of these programs allow you to view and audition individual Voices and save them to one of the 6 Custom Voice locations within the VL70-m. These editors are OMS compatible. They will also work directly via the Modem port without the need for OMS or MIDI Manager. If you wish to use the Printer port without OMS you will need to use Apple MIDI Manager.

PC Users...

RECOMMENDED: If you are using a very old PC, we recommend using the VL70-m PC Expert Editor for Windows available available here. Please note that these are very old programs and don't run on newer PCs. Be sure to download the instructions as well. Unlike Yamaha's Visual Editor, the Expert Editor IS able to save a Voice to a Custom Voice location. Questions regarding this editor software should be directed to its authors not to Patchman Music. Additional help can be found in the Wind Controller FAQ here.

PLG150-VL Users: The Yamaha Visual Editor for the PLG150-VL Card version DOES have the ability to save a Voice to one the 6 VL Custom memory slots in the PLG150-VL card as well as a VL70-m! Use the "VL Load Voice..." option under the File Menu to access this feature.

Composer Kurt Heinecke comments... "I've got Matt's patches for the Yamaha VL70-m, Alesis S4+ and NanoSynth, and the Roland JV-1010. His patches really bring each module to life. Even cheaper and older modules like the S4+ and NanoSynth gain a second life. As an example, I've used Matt's cello patch from the S4+ in a string quartet and fooled one of the quartet members as she was entering practice- she heard the cello but didn't see me, and was wondering what cello player they had found! Matt goes the extra mile and takes the time to layer voice elements like breath noise, key clicks, and other subtle sounds into appropriate patches. Thanks for creating the S4+ bank- it gave me reason to track down and buy this older (but still powerful) module! I've used Matt's acoustic emulations in live settings with great success.
